Eternal security is one of the most contentious issues in Christianity. Belief that you cannot lose your salvation is often thought to fall into the category of beliefs called Calvinism, named after John Calvin, and belief that you can lose your salvation is sometimes referred to as Arminianism, named after Jacobus Arminius.
